The first bullet is slippery-slope prophecy fulfilled... from "tolerance" to "acceptance", next will come "celebration" and/or "penalties against those who object"...

Orwell in Orlando: NEA Constructs Fascist New Policies at Convention
**Your Dues Money at Work, American Teachers

This past week, the bravest people I know--the teachers who are members of the Conservative Educators' Caucus and the Ex- Gay Educators' Caucus of the NEA (National Education Association)--once again endured an outrageous week at the group's annual convention. Child- damaging, teacher-centered discussions and policy formation transpired, defying reason, morality and constitutionality.

According to Jeralee Smith, founder and past chair of the Ex-Gay Educators' Caucus, here are the highlights.

*       The word "tolerance" will be replaced by "acceptance and respect" in current NEA  policies, including those covering "gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered" behaviors, orientations, etc. among students, teachers and staff. So the concept of cross-dressing third graders must now be "respected." Your twelve- year- old boys who want to practice homosexual sex together, deserve "acceptance and respect." Does this mean new textbooks? New sex ed curricula? Will school boards have the gumption to stand up against this insanity?

A select NEA committee will oversee the policy revision process, using their judgment to apply the new standard. So, conservative views will apparently be prohibited at schools and homosexuality has been officially declared a good, positive and beneficial thing. No more HIV/AIDS education is needed, probably. (They are asking for a lawsuit, right?)

*        "GLBT" issues are to be included in teacher training curricula. This bombshell passed without any debate since it was buried in a committee report. Your fascist underground at work.

*       The controversial "B-8", the proposal to endorse all versions of marriage (same sex, polygamous, etc.) was deleted for this meeting. The last-minute substitute endorsing current legal civil unions and same sex marriages was referred back to committee for future action. This means it will likely return in some new, diabolical form.

*       A delegate from California proposed a measure to prevent sexual misconduct among teachers. She was soundly trashed by the assembly, even called a liar.

*       Homosexual activist Wayne Besen, on a campaign to suppress the rights of ex-homosexuals and somehow prove they do not exist, showed up at the Ex-Gay Educators' exhibit booth. After attempting to pick a fight with a teacher and another exhibitor, he became so disorderly he had to be escorted outside by security police.

Jeralee told me she is laying it on the line with her fellow teachers. She is strongly urging every teacher who is a Christian and/or has sympathy with traditional values to have the integrity to either get involved and help bring some sanity back into play, or else get out of the NEA. The sidelines are simply no longer an option.

On a positive note, she reported that many teachers and delegates thanked her and others in the caucus for their work.

More than private words of support are needed, though. Who else is willing to publicly stand in the gap with these courageous people for the sake of our children?
